I recently did this with a group of very experienced improvisors who were really comfortable doing impressions, so to make it harder, I made them come up with impressions they were scared of doing -- but that caused everyone to draw a blank. So if doing this with a group of fearless folks you might want to bring a list of "hard to do" impressions as a backup.

I think gibberish has a place too. Am not sure if there's a definition of charisma, but it seems to be attached to people who just stay in the moment, out of their own heads. Doing Yes And in gibberish is great, although I don't know if it teaches charisma per se... just makes its absence or presence clearer to the audience.

Hi Carrie,

Thanks for your comment. Sounds like an interesting conference, but I'm afraid it's a little far for me to travel (from New Zealand).

I started this blog because I wished someone else would do it, then realized that no one else would.

Hi,

I am one of the authors of Unscripted Learning and it was fun to have this comment forwarded to me. So glad you thought it was interesting.

My co-author and I will be doing a workshop at an international conference called Performing the World IV in Tarrytown, NY on October 12-14. The conference brings together an international community of people who recognize performance as a powerful developmental activity for social-cultural transformation. The conference includes educators, artists, scholars, therapists, health and helping professions, business professionals, youth workers, activists and community organizers. If you are interested and would like more information (or would like to pass word about the conference on to others who might be interested), visit www.performingtheworld.org.

Also, I am in the process of meeting like-minded people who are interested in the value of improv and performance for human development, learning, and just plain old fun. I'd love to hear more about you and how you ended up with this blog.

Thanks for letting people know about the book.
